LASH LIFTS 101: HUMIDITY AND STORAGE.

We’re in the height of Summer and demand for holiday lashes are soaring, so the last thing you want is for the elements to work against you.

How can I avoid this you might ask?

Well you’re in the right place. Follow our advice for how you can perform amazing lifts, whatever the heat levels.

First of all, it’s important to recognise that each LVL step is a chemical solution, and like most things in science, if heat is applied to something, a reaction will take place. For LVL, it’s prolonged or excessive heat and exposure to air that may cause decomposition or oxidation.

Instant exposure to humid air will not affect the treatment. It’s more long-term factors such as prolonged exposure to these conditions that can affect the ingredients. Something to remember when storing your products.

HOW IS THE BONDING GEL EFFECTED BY YOUR WORKING ENVIRONMENT?

The Bonding Gel is essentially a very mild adhesive and like other adhesives, they require contact with moisture in order to begin curing. Once the Bonding Gel Blister is open, it’ll be exposed to air and the product will eventually set. Remember to avoid stirring the gel, as that introduces more air, which makes it cure quicker.

Another element you should be mindful of – especially during heatwaves – is the room temperature. The higher it is, the more moisture is present (humidity), and this means the Bonding Gel will cure quicker.

Newly trained technicians, who are still practising their technique, might find that the Bonding Gel starts to set before you’ve finished applying it. Top tip to avoid this, depending on what your hygrometer tells you, use a humidifier or de-humidifier to help maintain the humidity.

Similarly, a heater and fan can help you control the temperature. Using a heater can dry the air out if the humidity is too high. Air conditioning units also do this.

HOW SHOULD I STORE LVL PRODUCTS?

We advise to store blisters in a cool (10-15) dry place, away from the sun and heat. You can store LVL products in the fridge. The benefits of putting them in there, is to keep them at a more stable temperature during the summer months. Refrigeration keeps the product within a set temperature range and therefore the length of time the product spends in the fridge is not an issue.
