Lash Infills and Why You Need Them

Has the thought “why do I need lash infills?” Ever crossed your mind? Nouveau lashes can explain this often-misunderstood area of eyelash extension treatments simply.

What are lash infills?

Essentially, lash infills are individual lashes or fans that fill in the gaps in your lash extensions which can appear after 2-3 weeks, due to natural shedding.

A full set of lash extensions will look great for the first few weeks, but as a result of the lash life cycle and general wear and tear (particularly those who sleep on their front or side), the lashes will start to lose their pristine look. That’s why infills are a must for anyone who wants to touch up and maintain their lashes for longer.

How do lash infills work?

Your Nouveau Lashes artist will apply infills to any gaps in your lash extensions. By getting infills after your main treatments, you can keep your lashes looking fuller every day, without the need for a full replacement set. This also makes them less expensive and quicker to apply.

Why you need infills?

How long any eyelash extensions last depends on how quickly you shed your natural lashes. What many lash lovers may not know is that we’re all susceptible to lash shedding, which happens naturally when we reach the renewal stage of the lash cycle.

The lash cycle explained

Your natural eyelashes grow, mature and shed in a continuous cycle. As lash extensions are applied to your natural lashes, if you’re new to lash extensions you may assume that losing lashes is a direct result of having lash extensions. But that’s not the case at all – it’s entirely natural to notice an eyelash or two falling out.

How many weeks until a lash infill is required?

The average person has between 90-120 natural lashes per upper eyelid, and when you take into account that on average we will naturally shed 2-5 lashes per day, we lose a lot of lashes over the course of a month.

Here’s the maths:
On average…

After 1 week, you may have lost 21 lashes.
After 2 weeks, you may have lost 42 lashes.
After 3 weeks, you may have lost 63 lashes.

So we recommend booking a lash infill appointment 2-3 weeks after the initial appointment.

How many weeks before a new set of lashes is required?

If you have decided not to get your lashes infilled within 2-3 weeks of your initial appointment, your lashes may have grown out past the point of an infill. As you approach week 4, it’s time to start thinking about getting a brand new set of lashes instead.

Why? Because by that point, your Nouveau Lashes Artist would spend the same amount of time applying infills as creating a new set of lash extensions from scratch. You can still book in for a new set whilst you still have lash extensions on, just let your artist know and they will book in some extra time to remove your old lash extensions first. This way, they’ll be working on a solid foundation of bare lashes. That means they won’t need to assess which lashes are old or new and out of place, before they commit to creating a set of beautiful lashes.
