#NLGirlBoss: My Story by Sarah Cordier

So where did Sarah Cordier’s lash journey start? She started in the beauty industry 20 years ago, working with amazing brands such as ElemisClarinsEve Lom & the SpaceNK group.

My name is Sarah Corider – throughout this amazing journey, I’ve worked in several different beauty roles; I started my career as a mobile therapist within SpaceNK and was quickly promoted to Representative & then National Sales Manager.

Over 18 months ago, I decided to branch out alone (a very scary thought!). This was when my business Advanced Beauty truly came alive. Using the experiences I had learned from working with such amazing brands over the past few years, I decided to offer sales & training needs for small niche brands throughout the UK as well as treating celebrities, journalists & bloggers too – visiting major magazine houses & newspapers for desk treatments.

I found I had a gap within my business, to really fill; offering treatments at home & as a mobile service. A friend of mine had been having LVL  within a London salon & loved it, so I made the decision to go on the LVL Training Course & have never looked back.

I love love love this treatment… LVL  is by far my favourite treatment to do!

My clients absolutely love it, with a 100% returning client base dating back to August 2015! I retail the Lash & Brow Conditioning Serum too which is amazing for my retail sales – a huge part of any beauty business. My clients love it and I too love it; my own lashes are double the length now, plus at least a third in depth.

I work closely with the Marketing, PR & Digital Team at Nouveau Lashes and have been lucky enough to work within No.1 Harley Street for the brand delivering their treatments to celebrities, press, beauty experts and influencers alike. Recently, I performed LVL on Lisa Snowdon which was mentioned on Good Morning Britain as part of her beauty prep for her appearance on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here

When did you decide to become your own Girl Boss?

Only 18 months ago and I’d really wanted to be my own boss for around 18 years so it was about time! I wanted to work when I wanted to, spend time with my family & enjoy life. I realised life is too short after seeing a close friend fall ill and I wanted to go out & achieve my dreams. It is the best thing I ever did.

What piece of advice would you give to yourself at the beginning of your Girl Boss journey?

  • Always know your own worth
  • Be as flexible as you can for clients, as much as you can. You clients will be loyal, as a result – just make sure you get the work/life balance right though!
  • Be organised, make the most of your diary for bookings
  • Make sure you use social media platforms.. they will be your best source of obtaining a great client base

How do you define female empowerment?

A woman that is not afraid to be brave and follow her dreams. Hard work! Determination & never giving up!

How did you feel after completing your first treatment?

I was SO excited, I was smiling ear to ear, I couldn’t wait for my clients to see the results! I have even had a lady cry with happiness before. She was 72 with very fair lashes & felt she had never had lashes her whole life. She was so so pleased!! Her twin sister then booked the treatment directly after she had left – just brilliant! Working in this business can really give a client confidence. I love that about it the most

How did you feel after officially registering your business or opening your own premises?

Absolutely fantastic!! After 20 years of working with some amazing brands, there is nothing quite like working for yourself – although a little bit scary, it’s definitely in a good way!

How did you acquire your first high profile / influential client? What effect did this have on your business?

I reached out to the Marketing / PR Team at Nouveau Lashes and told them how much I loved the brand & my passion for specifically the LVL  treatment. They then put me in contact with the PR Agency they work with and this eventually led to working in No 1 Harley Street.

I’ve since worked with/on so many bloggers & journalists – I was even filmed for a major UK newspaper. This then led to working through Secret Spa; the online booking app offering treatments in a client’s hotel, work place or home. It was through Secret Spa that I first met Lisa Snowdon. Her high profile features around the I’m A Celeb appearance was huge for the brand and also for me and my business. I of course shared this information across all the social media platforms I have – which definitely helped increase my treatment bookings!
